15 year Celebration - Saturday June 6, 2015

We will have been in operation for 15 successful years of fundraising and awareness building this year.  To celebrate we will be hosting a pot luck at our AGM

What :             Pot Luck - Please bring your special appetizer or dessert to share

                        Materials exchange - opportunity to trade fabric and jewelry

                       AGM and future direction discussion

We will have a brief Annual General Meeting and a discussion of future initiatives. This will be followed by the Pot Luck, materials exchange and music.

Supply Depot

Effective immediately ,there has been a permanent change in location for the supplies that you need to make angels.

Uptown Mall sale

We will have a table at Uptown on Saturday, May10th from 10am to 4pm , the day before Mothers day

Come buy an angel for Mom! What better way to express your thanks to the loving angel in your life than with an African Aids Angel?

We will be set up just inside the doors of Walmart in the Uptown Shopping Center


Annual General Meeting

The AGM this year will be on Monday May 26 at 7 p.m. at the James Bay New Horizons centre at 234 Menzies St Victoria. The AGM will provide an update on the year.  A number of organizational changes will be discussed, so your attendance is important

There will also be a presentation on a recent visit to the Zambia .


New materials available at the Supply Depot

One of our long term supporters is retiring from AAA due to health. She will be dropping her angel making materials at the Supply Depot. She has cut and uncut fabric and a great amount of jewelry, some acquired by going to garage sales The jewelry is all prepped for use in Angel making

Music For Africa

2nd Annual Concert .... Music for Africa

Sat. February 8th, 2014 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Repertoire from classical to jazz to rousing choral selections will be performed by exceptional young musicians in a gala charity recital. Stirring performances on piano, strings, woodwinds and voice relay the passion of these students. The lineup includes Symphony Splash 2012 Young Soloist 18 year old violinist, Eehjoon Kwon as well as the University of Victoria Chamber Singers.

 

Funds raised will support women and children in four HIV / Aids projects in South Africa, Zambia and Malawi through the local grassroots registered society, African Aids Angels.

 

Angels and refreshments will be for sale before the concert and at intermission. As well, a wonderful selection of silent auction items will be on offer.

Tickets will be for sale at Ivy Books, Long & McQuade and at the door. Please come join these supremely talented students as they share their music and find innovative ways to bring joy to the world!

Cost :   Adults $10 / students $5

UVic World Aids Day event

African AIDS Angels, UVic will be having an angel sale this Monday December 2nd from 10am-2pm in honour of World AIDS Day.

We will have a table in the Student Union Building, in the wing adjacent to the Information Booth.

Also on December 2nd, we will have a film screening of "How to Survive a Plague" a film about HIV/AIDS in the SUB basement room B028, starting at 7:30pm that evening.

We hope to see you there supporting HIV/AIDS awareness

World AIDS Day event at Camosun College

An all-day fair regarding the global state of AIDS; Raising awareness of AIDS in Africa, and helping those who have AIDS through donations. This is a collaboration event between Camosun College, Camosun International Department, and the Camosun College Student Society.

We need some more used costume jewelry for angel decoration.

We can use earrings, brooches, rings and interesting beads or fancy buttons. We also need pinking shears and regular scissors.

4 volunteers needed for Videa Fair Trade fair, Saturday November 30 2013

Videa Fair Trade Fair will be happening again this year, and AAA will be there to sell angels. Lee Ann and I can set-up and stay until noon, but we will need two pairs of people to look after the shifts from 12-2 p.m, and 2-4 p.m. The last shift does entail packing up items, just so you are aware, and return to our house in Fairfield.

Angel Making - Fall of 2013

Angel making will take place at the following locations during the fall

• At the James Bay Community Project, 547 Michigan Avenue on the third Wednesday of each month from 1-3 pm
• From Thursday, October 3, at the Holy Cross Parish Center, 4049 Gordon Head Road 9.00-12.00 .No experience is necessary to be a part of these sessions. It is an opportunity to meet new people and to let your creativity loose as you design your own style of angel.
• For UVic students there will be a meeting held every other Thursday from 7.30-9.00 om , starting Sept 26. This is in SUB room B025 at UVic. Treats will be provided

Donations of School supplies for Lusaka, Zambia
Deadline for donations extended to end of November 2013!

We have an opportunity to send a container with supplies, for use by the St. Nicholas orphanage children that we support through AAA, and for the adjoining school (all Grades) that the orphans (and many community children) attend. Both the orphanage and school are situated at Makeni Ecumenical Centre, Lusaka.

We need good, new or nearly new:

• school supplies
• linens such as towels, sheets, kitchen cloths, blankets
• clothing for children and young adults
• toiletries
• non-breakable kitchen items (non-electronic)
• sports equipment and toys
• simple music instruments (e.g recorders)
